Long leaf-like shapes in various shades of green tumble across a light-brown page, punctuated by tiny stitches in shades of off-white. They taper off into blue and white circles at the tip of the kelp. Green paper is cut roughly into the shape of trees with a few leaves scattered around it. Leaf details and canopy shadows are added with colored pencil and ink. The green paper sits on a white background in front of some notebooks and pottery on a desk. A blue ink drawing depicts a large piece of driftwood draped with reddish-brown kelp. The drawing is cut out of white paper and casts a blue watercolor shadow on a background of brown paper.

The first half of the year was a good time to push the boundaries of paper. What if sketches took a leading role? What if threads added texture? Could paint create another layer?

Interestingly, the more natural, realistic palettes created a more dream-like sense of place (non-place?)
