Earlier this year, I was stuck in the East Bay for a couple weeks. I missed my San Francisco rituals, so I sketched out some of the views. I eventually made them into a series of six small artworks:

I.

The Rose Garden in Golden Gate Park, heading north from the Japanese Tea Garden.

II.

Peekaboo view of the Golden Gate Bridge, beyond the treetops of Golden Gate Park. This is the view looking north from my home office window. Kind of. The sun never actually passes near the horizon here.

III.

A rare sunny day in my foggy Sunset neighborhood. On those magical evenings, everything turns warm orange and cool blue.

IV.

One of SF's more iconic views, complete with hills and fog. Somewhere in the city’s northeast corner, looking downtown.

V.

I'll never get tired of this view along Ocean Beach. There's so much history and story attached to the Cliff House. And it's truly magical during sunset.

VI.

Saving the best for last—this final piece is inspired by the rooftop view from my new office. I started a new job at KQED and their shiny new headquarters earlier this year. It's a pretty stunning view west towards the Mission District, Twin Peaks, Sutro Tower, and beyond. Not pictured here is the ominous chunk of fog that likes to perch on the horizon, reminding me of what awaits on my commute home…
