Layers of cut paper depict a red house against a warm yellow sky, behind a grove of magnolia blossoms and other trees. It sits in a white mat, with some of the trees and plants spilling out of the mat opening. A detail view reveals the delicate layers of paper in each magnolia bloom. The edge of the artwork is visible but blurry. The artwork is shown in its entirety against a simple deep-green background.
I.

During a springtime stroll in San Francisco’s Forest Hill neighborhood, I came across a grove of blossoming magnolia trees. Peeking shyly behind the blooms was someone’s house. The air was warm and quiet except for the occasional call of bird song. It felt a bit like a scene out of a children’s fairy tale.
